Andrea is an embedded software engineer on the API telematics team whose career path was solidified through internships and real-world learning.
What do you do?
I write code to develop the website our dealers and customers use to track machines, which includes location, fault codes and their idle versus working hours.
How did you get involved in engineering?
When I was signing up for college and had to pick a major, computer science seemed like a good fit. Even though I had no idea what it was, I knew I liked computers and science. I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it, but when I was introduced to the workforce, I really started enjoying it.
What was your path to Vermeer?
I attended high school in Pella, which is where I first learned about Vermeer. When I was midway through college at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa, I had my first internship opportunity. This solidified my decision to pursue computer science.
The next summer, I got an internship at Vermeer. I guess it went well because they wanted to hire me full time after graduation!
Why did you choose Vermeer?
I chose Vermeer because of the real emphasis and effort to uphold the company’s values. My favorite thing about Vermeer is the people. They care about you as an individual, and that’s special.
What do you like most about working at Vermeer?
Everyone at Vermeer wants to improve, and they want to help you succeed. Vermeer works because it invests in people and those people invest right back into Vermeer.
