This prestigious honor recognizes individuals whose innovations have had a lasting impact on North America's machinery and dealer distribution industry over the past 55 years.
Using his farming background and innovative mindset, Gary developed solutions that directly addressed the real challenges farmers face. Gary’s groundbreaking inventions have had a significant impact on the agricultural industry. One of his notable inventions was a mechanical wagon hoist, which simplified the transportation and unloading of corn between farms. However, his most well-known invention was the revolutionary large round baler, which helped transform labor-intensive processes and paved the way for increased productivity for farmers.
“We are thrilled that Gary, our founder and my grandfather, has been recognized by Farm Equipment for his contributions to the industry,” said Jason Andringa, president and CEO of Vermeer. “His unwavering commitment to innovation and his deep understanding of the needs of farmers have shaped our company’s values and continue to inspire us today.”
Joining Gary Vermeer in the inaugural class of the Shortline Legends Hall of Fame are the following individuals, who have also made significant contributions to the agricultural machinery and dealer distribution industry:
- Roy Applequist, founder of Great Plains Mfg
- Don Landoll, founder of Landoll Corp
- Joe MacDonald, founder of MacDon
- Jon Kinzenbaw, founder of Kinze Mfg
“At Vermeer, we are committed to continuing my grandfather’s vision and values,” said Andringa. “We believe in making a positive impact on the lives of our customers, employees and communities. This induction into the Farm Equipment’s Shortline Legends Hall of Fame is proof of his enduring influence and the remarkable legacy he created.”
