Prep to connect

Site preparation

Clearing the land of trees, stumps and brush is the first step in creating a new renewable energy location. Vermeer offers a complete lineup of wood processing equipment, including tub grinders, horizontal grinders and low speed shredders to power through large amounts of tough materials, and compact articulated loaders (ATX) to move waste debris.

Equipment Installation

Vermeer utility installation equipment is built to handle a variety of ground conditions throughout the electrical grid installation process. Specialized models, like Vermeer horizontal directional drills (HDD), are well suited for fiber and electrical installations with minimal ground disturbance. Installing the actual solar panels can be done efficiently with Vermeer equipment. After piles are driven securely into the ground by Vermeer pile drivers, heavy solar panels and supporting materials can be transported efficiently using Vermeer mini skid steers or ATXs.

Site management

Vermeer ATXs, mini skid steers, and horizontal grinders are essential for ongoing site maintenance, construction cleanup and landscaping projects throughout the lifespan of a solar farm.

FAQs for Vermeer renewable energy solutions

Vermeer provides one of the industry's most extensive selections of horizontal directional drills, capable of handling tasks ranging from short, shallow crossings to long, deep and challenging bores from the shoreline to the ocean floor. For open-cut utility installation projects on wind farms, Vermeer vibratory plows and trenchers offer quick and efficient performance across various ground conditions. Additionally, when preparing a wind energy site for new turbine installation, Vermeer horizontal grinders, tub grinders and whole tree chippers are essential for clearing the area.

Clearing the land for a new solar farm is a demanding task that requires the removal of trees, stumps, brush and other debris that could impede the development of alternative energy. Vermeer offers a comprehensive lineup of wood processing equipment for this type of work. Vermeer tub grinders are designed to handle stumps, regrind, and high-volume wood recycling and mulch operations. For tree removal, Vermeer whole tree chippers provide a mobile, maneuverable solution to efficiently chip wood. Additionally, Vermeer horizontal grinders and our low speed shredder are built to tackle large-scale land clearing, right-of-way and composting projects, powering through tough materials.

Precision and efficiency are crucial during the solar farm equipment installation phase, and Vermeer installation equipment is designed to meet these jobsite challenges. Constructing a solar farm installation, including work at elevated heights, is a multi-step process that begins with laying and driving piles into the ground, followed by assembling the racking to the piles, and finally installing the solar panels on the racking. Vermeer pile drivers, equipped with features like GPS and auto plumb capabilities, ensure accurate and efficient movement from pile to pile. Additionally, Vermeer mini skid steers and compact articulated loaders are invaluable onsite due to their compact maneuverability and material handling capabilities. These versatile machines allow crews to efficiently spread out the racking and begin bolting it together, completing the necessary steps to get the solar panels ready for operation.

Yes, we can. Utility installation is crucial for developing solar farm installations, as it connects these new sites to the nearest overhead and underground electrical grids. This work often takes place in rural, remote areas with varying ground conditions, from hard rock to clay to cobble. Vermeer offers a comprehensive range of utility installation equipment designed to handle these challenges. Our utility and large-diameter trenchers are built to power through various ground conditions, from soft soils to abrasive rock. Vermeer creates premium horizontal directional drills well-suited for electrical installations on solar farm sites, even in tight spaces and challenging soil types, including small-diameter bores in rocky ground. Additionally, if site requirements prohibit hand digging, Vermeer trailer and truck-mounted vacuum excavators and hydro vacuum equipment are designed for soft digging and potholing.

Vermeer has a robust dealer network with over 600 locations worldwide, providing localized support even in remote areas.
